Anthony Gasparatos, 74, resident of Strongsville, Ohio, and native of Athens, Greece, lost his heroic seven-year battle with cancer on October 20, 2023. He was the son of the late Panagiotis and Vasiliki (Makris) Gasparatos.
Anthony came to Ohio at the age of 18 to attend Ohio University in Athens. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Industrial Systems Engineering. After graduation, he served in the Greek Navy. Upon resuming his career in the U.S., he held many positions as an IT Project Manager at banks and consulting companies and was the IT Director of the Athens2004 Olympic Committee. Before retiring, he consulted with the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
He was known for his warmth and wit. He was intellectually curious and loved to engage in philosophical debate and to open his and others’ minds to new concepts and information. He loved music, his dog, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. Even as his cancer slowly robbed him of his health, he found solace in joking with friends, always with a loving smirk.
Love for Anthony remains in the minds and hearts of Linda, his wife and best friend of 48 years; his dear son James (Daniel Pendergast); brother Dimitri, sister-in-law Barbara Acton; niece Jennifer (Chad) Elliott, nephew Panos Gasparatos, cousins Mariana (Gary) Armstrong, Stephen (Kim) Armstrong, Alex (Vagelitsa) Armstrong, and many more loved ones on both sides of the Atlantic.
Anthony was preceded in death by his cherished relatives, nephew Michael Acton, niece Vassia Gasparatos, brother-in-law Paul Acton, and cousin Angelos Papastefanou.
Per his request, there will be no formal service. Keep fond memories of him in your hearts.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Hospice Services of Southwest General (Strongsville, OH) who helped Anthony in his transition.
