Charles R. March

Charles Richard ‘Dick’ March, 85 of Hinckley, OH. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born in Coshocton County Ohio to the late Charles Robert and Ruth Maxine (nee Williams). He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Mary (nee Bowen); sons Michael and Todd (Jane), two stepsons: Mitchell (Lisa) Holt and Anthony (Miranda) Holt; four grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister Roxanne Slaughter (Carson) and nephew Rex Slaughter. Dick was preceded in death by his infant son Tim, sister Dona Kees and nephew Scot (Kathy) Kees.

Dick was very devoted to his family as well as his many many friends. He served in the Army National Guards, was a lifetime member of Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18, spending most of his career with Independence Excavating, where he enjoyed “riding a Caterpillar digging in the dirt”. During his 23 years of retirement, he spent his time enjoying his many passions, some of which included woodworking, gardening, mechanical, antique collecting, flea markets, going to garage sales (as well as having his own yearly garage sale). He was always on the hunt for the “best deal”. A family friend says this after hearing of his passing, “I bet he’s in heaven, surrounded by an incredible amount of extremely discounted tools that are in amazing condition”.  Dick was a larger than life guy and a gentle giant. He will be very sadly missed by all.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held August 16, 2023 at Coppertop Golf Club, 5740 Center Road, Valley City, OH  6:00-8:00 PM. All those who have been touched by Dick please attend.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions can be made to one’s charity of choice in Dick’s name.
