James “Jim” Patrick Scanlon, age 45 of Solon, Ohio, passed away on May 4, 2022. He was born on June 24, 1976 to the late Mary Jane Christie Scanlon and John (Sue) Scanlon. Jim was always a loving and appreciative brother to Kate Scanlon (Kevin Keating) and Molly (Walt) Edwards. He was step-brother to Hannah (Alex) Cox and Max (Jenna) Laird. Jim was a proud uncle to Rose Christie Keating, Walter Hugh Edwards III, Isla Jane Edwards, Charles Emerson Laird, and Georgia Kate Laird. Jim is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom were always a big part of his life.
Jim was a 1998 graduate of Ohio University and went on to work for Cuyahoga County as a probation officer. He retired early from his career due to his seizure disorder. Jim spent the following two decades pursuing his love of art, reading, and listening to his favorite music. Jim was an enthusiastic Cleveland sports fan and life-long nightly Jeopardy! viewer. Despite his significant health struggles, Jim always had a positive attitude and loved talking with people and making new friends. Jim found comfort and friendships while attending Speak Easy, a group supporting other adults with brain injuries and communication disorders.

We were so saddened Jack to hear about Jim. Our prayers are with you and your family. John was hoping to see Jim at the Stroke Club luncheon last month and looking forward to seeing him again once Speak Easy started again in person. He and John had a special connection, one that Jim seemed to have with all the stroke survivors. He worried about everyone! The beautiful drawing he made for John will be cherished even more now. He will be deeply missed!
Prayers coming for comfort to all who knew and loved Jim. Kate, I remember your talking about him and how you worried. He is in a happier place now, and doesn’t have to worry about seizures any more.
Condolences to his family and our Speakeasy family. For me as a stroke survivor with aphasia, I remember him as a nice guy with a good humor. He will be definitely missed.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers. My heart aches for all of you at such a tragic loss! Katie posted a picture awhile back of the 3 kids on Easter Sunday and it warmed my heart…. it’s exactly how I still remember everyone…. as if we never grew up!!! …. I even remember the outfits! Love and condolences to all of you!!!
Thanks Laura, your kind words are much appreciated.
My heart aches for your mom`s condition, I pray for her a lot, and I think of her often.
