Shirley S. Bunsey, age 87 passed away on February 26th 2023 in the comfort of her sons and her daughter in law from complications of COPD. She was born at home, on Golf Avenue, in Ellport PA on June 27th, 1935 to Dennis J.C. and Catherine (nee Seetch) Butcher.
She attended Ellport Elementary School before the family moved back to Cleveland during the Winter of 1947. In Cleveland she attended Wright Junior High School and John Marshall High School. While in High School, she participated in Student Council, Band, and was an All-Star Cheerleader. Simultaneously, she was also the Majorette Captain for both John Marshall High
School and the Cleveland Browns. Shirley also appeared numerous times on Channel 5’s Gene Carroll Show. After High School she was employed by Forbes Finishes, where she modeled and was voted Miss Forbes Finishes, and a finance company in the old Euclid Arcade.
She was a lifetime believer in exercise and in 1975 she turned that belief into a career, starting with being the manager of New Life Fitness Health Spa in Findlay OH. She moved her family back to Cleveland in 1977 and took the position of Area Director for both Vic Tanny International Health Clubs and Physicians Weight Loss Clinics. Later in her career she served in multiple offices for Saint Johns Westshore Hospital.
In retirement, she spent time with, and helping out family and friends. If you needed anything she would drop what she was doing and help. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, taking care of her family and cats, playing Scrabble, and doing her crossword puzzles. She really was a wizard working those puzzles and never turned a good Scrabble game down. Her mind was always sharp as a tack, and it remained so until the very end.
Shirley was a dedicated Mother first and foremost. There was never any doubt how much she loved her two boys. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and friends, and embraced every moment with them. Her Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years dinners were always to be remembered. It truly was amazing how she fit so many people into her home.
Shirley is survived by her Sister Kay Brasty (nee Butcher), her two Sons Christopher (Wife Ladyne), and Douglas; Grandchildren Kyle and Josie; as well as countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Brother Dennis and Sister in Law Barbara (nee Ohme) Butcher; Brother in Law John R. Brasty; and Granddaughter Fiona.
A celebration of her life will be held at the end of April at Saint Peters Church in North Ridgeville. Her wishes were to be cremated and buried with her family. She Loved you all.
